Daffodils Without Flowers

This is easy and one of the best features of any garden - and guaranteed to give you years of pleasure and enjoyment. Rose gardening can be both a source of beauty for the garden and, a super hobby if you like. Don't be put off because they need pruning - that's relatively easy to learn - or you can find someone to do it for you a reasonable price. The thing about roses is the breadth of what they provide you and your garden.

o Cut flowers o Fragrance o Beauty of shape - hybrid tea roses have superb and beautiful bud shapes and retain their form when the bud opens. o Color o Hardiness - roses are very drought resistant, will survive in snow climates, can grow in semi tropical regions o Stand up to lots of neglect - though please don't! o Come in a variety of forms - bush (shrub), standards (tree roses), climbers, miniatures, ground covers o Can grow in partial shade - best though if they have a minimum of 6 hours of sunlight o Can grow in pots - so good even for apartment balconies and courtyards o Many are disease resistant (or easily treated) o Repeat flowering

While there are quite a few roses with little or no perfume - there is no need to buy them. Fragrant roses are the best - and come in all colors so you won't miss out. Roses thrive in temperate climates, but can also do well in cold winter climates with the appropriate pruning and weather proofing. While there are over 100 species of roses, the main ones for home gardens are:

o Hybrid tea o Floribunda o English/David Austin o Grandiflora

Many of these come also in climbing form, and most are available in bush or standard forms Rose aficionados will also explore many of the other types or species available, but the above are more than sufficient for a rose garden in home yards. In temperate climates, with timely pruning, you should get between 4- 6 'crops' of roses - either for display on the bush or for cut flowers.
