Moving up from Year 11 to Year 12 has really been a nightmare for me since the start of year. The work, the stress - proves to be more than I can bare! Fortunately though, I've identified some areas I can 'fix' to reduce those stress and thought I should share it with everyone!

First lesson - Do Not Procrastinate

Procrastination. Why do we do it? Why is it unavoidable? Simple! - because we're scared. Scared of what you might wonder. Scared of the potential outcome of our effort. At least, that's how I was during my GCSE years. I chose not to study since the start of year only because I didn't want to find my effort to be useless at the end of it. At last, I only managed to get grades that weren't that good that you'd be so proud as to share it with so many people. So, first thing to remember - never procrastinate, no matter how bad or 'scary' something may seem, procrastination is just going to make it worse, it'll add up more pressure on yourself and will stress you even more eventually. If it is something you just have to do, might as well get it over with rather than leaving it and having to catch up on it on some other time. At least, the outcome of your effort would be worth it.

Second lesson - Admit Mistakes

People can sometimes have too high of an ego. Too high that they're blinded by it from their own selves. I mean, let's face it, noon in this world is perfect, everyone has their own weaknesses and has their own strengths, a fool would be one who only sees their strengths but never admits their weaknesses.

When you think you've done something wrong, accept it, and find a solution for it. This way, you won't be making matters even worse. In fact, you'll feel glad you did as you know you've done something right, although may be tough to take.

Third lesson - Be organised

Not everything in this life is spontaneous. Look at the flowers, you won't find most of them during the Winter, you'll find most of them only blooms in Spring. Even a tsunami is organised - it has its warnings before it comes. So, lets learn from nature and organise ourselves, organise our time and lives. Lets think about it - God gave us all the same 24 hours every single day of our lives, not one person gets more and not one person gets less. But, why are there some people who succeed and some people who remains as a 'failure'? A point I find really important.

Fourth lesson - Ask for help

When you get stuck on a question, or something you just can't do no matter how hard you try - don't let your pride fool you. Ask for help, whether it'd be from a teacher, a friend, or even, your relatives. Think of how it'll benefit you once you know what you're looking at and how you'll be able to move on to other stuff once you get the current stuff sorted, rather than having to waste 2 hours on a question and stress yourself over how you can solve the problem by yourself.

Fifth lesson - Do Not Overwork

One thing that I find myself keep on doing is that I work too hard sometimes that the next week or two, I'll just give up completely for thinking it's too much for me. The fact of the matter is, I'm throwing too many work into my head and not sorting it out as I should be. Take it slowly and work at your own pace, if you think you're working yourself too hard, get a break regularly. This way, you can be sure you keep yourself working but at the same time, not mounting up the stress and burden you feel.

Sixth lesson - Get involved in sports

Whether it'd be a game of tag with your friends or playing football for your school or workplace, playing and doing sports are known to be a good way of releasing stress. By doing sports, you're giving your brain some rest from the tension of studies and work and letting it relax a bit more. No matter how busy you think you are, don't force yourself to stay indoors and act like a bookworm. Everyone needs to go out and taste the fresh air once in a while!

Seventh and final tip - Get To Know People

Some people may be picky in choosing friends and that is completely understandable. But that does not mean you can't ask people how they are, get to know them a bit more and make yourself feel better. It's not a crime to know people, it's only when you cross the line it's a crime. As long as you keep yourself in the safe range, there's no harm in getting to know people and learning about the different types of people there are in this lovely world, the different cultures, norms and values.
