Have you ever noticed that when you mention the word "Steak" around some people, that their faces will light up like a Christmas Tree? I guess some of us just love the taste and texture of this dish when it is prepared to perfection.

On the other хэнд, I have come across some folks that can take it or leave it! Now my question to you folks that enjoy a good steak is...just what is it about Cubed Steak?

Well I'm about to tell you. 1. First and foremost it is reasonably priced, if you just have to have steak. 2. There are many ways that you can cook it. And 3. It is sooo good when it is smothered in onions and home-made gravy, with a side dish of creamy mashed potatoes, and broccoli.

Now let me share with you how you can cook up this great dish for yourself and your loved ones.

Here's what you will be needing:

* 2 packages of Fresh Cubed Steak. They usually come with about 3-4 medium sized cubed steaks a package. I find that these are the most tender.

* 5-6 Large Potatoes.

* 1 Fresh Bundle Of Broccoli.

* 1 Stick Of Butter.

* Sea-Salt and a little Seasoned Salt.

* Pepper.

* Flour.

* Cooking Oil.

Now here is how we bring it all together.

1. First, you will want to peel your potatoes, placing each potato in a large cooking pot, as you finish peeling them. Note: Be sure to fill your pot about half full with cold water. Once you have all of your potatoes peeled, it's time to dice them. It doesn't matter how large or small. These will be mashed potatoes. (Yet I do recommend a medium sized dicing). When you are done dicing your potatoes, rinse them with cold water. Now using the same large pot, fill it with cold water about half full, or until potatoes are covered with water. Cook over medium high heat, bringing them to a boil for 15 to 20 minutes.

2. While potatoes are boiling, you can start preparing your meat.

To do this, remove meat from package and rinse thoroughly in cold water. Place each piece on a large platter. Sprinkle with sea salt, pepper, and seasoned salt. Turn each piece over and repeat the seasoning process.

3. Using a large bowl or a 9x13 cake pan add 2 cups of flour, 2 teaspoons of sea salt, 2 teaspoons of black pepper, and 2 teaspoons of seasoned-salt, and mix well.

4. Take a large skillet and pour in about a 1/2 inch of cooking oil. Turn your stove on to medium heat and allow your oil to get hot.

5. While waiting for your oil to get hot, you may start battering your cubed steaks in the flour that you prepared. All you do is take each piece of cubed steak and place them face down in your flour, bounce your pan on your counter top 1 or 2 times, turn each piece over and repeat the bounce. Be sure to cover each piece thoroughly.

6. Your oil should be good-to-go now! Put battered cubed steak in skillet turning each piece over every 2 minutes. Let each piece cook for about 10 minutes.

7. Don't forget the broccoli. Now I like my broccoli steamed. But depending on the time that you have, you could always get the frozen kind and pop it in the microwave. When steaming fresh broccoli all you need to do is cut the broccoli spears from the stem at the point where the broccoli begins to blossom out like a flower. Then you only need to separate the spears and rinse in cold water.

To steam your fresh broccoli you will need a steamer or (you could use your medal food strainer and large 2-qt pot). To do this put 1-cup of water into the pot and put the strainer inside of the pot. Now put the fresh broccoli spears inside of the stainer, sprinkle a little sea-salt on the broccoli, cover and steam with high heat for about 10-15 minutes.

8.Your potatoes are done. Now drain the water off and put them in a large bowl. Add 1/2 stick of butter 1 cup of milk and mix together. To make it easier I always use a cake mixer when mixing. It makes them come out smooth and creamy.

9. I guess you say what about the gravy? Okay! Here you go. Now that your meat is all done, pour the oil out of the skillet leaving about 2 tablespoons of oil along with the residue from the batter. Place the skillet back on the stove over medium heat, and add 1 cup of water and stir. Add about a 1/4 cup of onions and let it simmer. To thicken it up, all you do is add 2 tablespoons of flour to a half cup of hot tap water and mix well. Pour it slowly into your skillet for desired thickness.

There you have it, enjoy your meal. And you too will know what it is about Cubed Steak!
