Yeah, in 2005 most servers were 60/40 Alliance. In terms of why, I think the playerbase was less snobby and WOW Classic TBC Gold casual in 2005 (aka cared about character fantasy more than researching pvp meta) People favored alliance as it seemed more relatable, and they were looking to be heroic good guys, like in Lord of the Rings. It was more easy to be the monster "bad guy" or zombie than to desire that. Will of the Forsaken was huge and horde more focused on pvp. However, it wasn't a huge thing. The general consensus was that horde had more powerful pvp races, but it didn't really matter.
Although it's likely to be much better with TBC and other areas, traditional leveling and PvP in open world was a nightmare for Alliance on the PVP server. There is no reason for meta players (majority but not all) to play Alliance in horde-vs.-horde queues.
After spending hundreds/thousands of hours with my alliance characters on a server for pvp, this truly feels like a major disgrace to me by blizzard. This will lead to an era of horde rule on all PVP realms. The alliance will be impossible in open world. It is evident by the classicwow subreddit's reaction. Wow is a loser and the playerbase is total trash.
Developers and players convert traditional into buy WOW TBC Classic Gold retail and in gg.
