Peach Flowers Meaning

It has been almost a year since I put in a new garden of California native plants and I've loved every moment of it. I feel that overall, the garden has done very well in it's first year and that I was fortunate in that I only had a few plants die. At first when everything was planted, it looked a bit funny, as there were these really small one gallon plants all over the front yard and lots of bare space in between them.

I had been told and I read this as well, only buy one gallon plants, don't buy anything larger. And the reason? Because they will have a better chance of adapting to their new home, plus (And this I found difficult to believe), they will grow very fast. The other rule is to be sure to place them about 3-4' apart so that they will have plenty of room.

All of this turned out to be very, very true. When I look at photos that I took this past March, compared with those in Dec. of '07, there is a huge difference and now after almost one year, the change is really surprising!

In our rush to get everything in before my friend Deena and I went our separate ways for Christmas, we placed some of the plants too close together and now I'm realizing that I might have to remove some of them. I'll just see what happens over the Winter months as the garden goes into it's growing cycle and make any decisions then as to what to do.

Meanwhile, it's beautiful and it's become a favorite hangout for lizards and birds. And it continues to be a happy distraction for me!
