Whatever kind of orchid you choose, you must provide it the basic requirements to nurture and grow. These basic requirements are the potting medium, watering, fertilizing and the location at which the orchid is kept. All of these requirements will have an impact in the success of the orchids. There are different containers which are used to grow orchids. The pots which contain orchids are мейд either from plastic or terracotta clay.

Plastic Orchid Pot

&bull- This kind of an orchid pot has some specific characteristics. Firstly, it is light weight. Secondly, it may have several drainage holes. This kind of pot is more suitable for indoor use. The air pressure indoors is obviously normal and not too much, so the pot is far less likely to be blown over by the air.

&bull- One of the main reasons why this orchid pot (i.e. a plastic orchid pot) is preferred is because of its amazing ability- in the plastic pot, the growing medium dries out pretty much slowly, as compared to the clay pot. That is what makes it favorable for the purpose.

&bull- You just don't walk into a store and grab a plastic pot. You have to choose the right one. The most recommended plastic orchid pot would be the one with thick walls which do not break easily. Secondly, the orchid pot you choose should be light in color. Thirdly, and lastly, it should not heat up quickly. To get rid of this 'heating up quickly, problem' clear polythene pots have been introduced. They allow light to pass through them and reach into the roots. So, these polythene pots are beneficial both ways...

Terracotta Orchid Pot

&bull- This kind of pot has its own advantages. For example, it's heavy. So, obviously (you should be smart enough to figure this out: P) it's more stable and more resistant to air. That means, no more falling over now.

&bull- Wait! There are more pretty and fancy things about this orchid plant! (Okay not that much, but still.) It has on drainage hole in the bottom. And, some specialist orchid pots also have one on their sides. Isn't that AMAZING?!:D

Basket Orchid Pot

&bull- If you want to be nice to orchids, you'll be doing them a huge favor by putting them in a basket. Baskets are suitable for orchids. And, especially, if the orchids have pendant flowers or if they are sprawling orchids...

&bull- A basket container is мейд of wire, plastic, mesh, wood or pottery.

&bull- The most favorable and like-able factor about this orchid pot is that it allows air to circulate around the compost and roots.

&bull- But, with great power comes great responsibility. (I just wanted to say that: D) it's not just as easy as putting the orchids in the basket and that's it. NO! You have to take care of the orchids.

You will need to take care that the orchids do not dry out in the basket...

Like I said, you have to take responsibility once you put that orchid into the basket... the basket will definitely need support. Some materials can come in handy (yes, you have to work. Life is not all about fun...) like a cork or a bark (of either a pine or an oak) Now, here comes the exciting part: Take some material with the help of which you can tie the plant up (use strips from ladies tights! They are useless anyways... no offence to the ladies). Now, you have to be very precise about this- you have to tie the plant to the piece of bark in such a way that no water is able to run into the centre of the plant.

One tip is to be aware that the fine roots of some orchids may penetrate the support block and make it difficult to re-pot your orchid.
