A teenage surfer has died from a shark attack – the second such incident this week off Australia’s coast. Zac Young, 19, from the New South Wales town of Port Macquarie, is believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest when a shark bit off both his legs earlier today. Young was in the surf off Campbell’s Beach, sitting on his board, when the horrific attack occurred. ‘His mates struggled with the shark for a short time. Then the shark has let go and friends then courageously managed to get him to shore,’ police officer Joanne Reid told reporters. ‘It has taken a bit of time to get him to shore and he lost a fair amount of blood on the way. It is just a tragic, tragic incident,’ she added. Following the assault he was helped by friends and swimmers to the shore where CPR was performed but he died at the scene. The latest incident comes less than a week after 35-year-old surfer Chris Boyd died from a shark attack in the waters off Western Australia. The shark is believed to have bounced off another surfer’s board before attacking him, biting off his left arm and parts of his right leg.
