Selangor MB suggests federal government to review salary of PM and MPs

SHAH ALAM: Amid growing criticism over the pay hike for Selangor state assemblymen, Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim on Monday proposed that the Federal government review the salary of the Prime Minister and Members of Parliament. He said it was about time the Federal government take a similar approach to that of the Selangor state government which raised the salary of the speaker and the state assemblymen. Abdul Khalid who is also the Member of Parliament for Bandar Tun Razak however, did not elaborate whether he would raise it in parliament but said he would support such a motion. "Though Pakatan Rakyat members have opposed any proposal for a pay hike, I will support such a call if raised in Parliament," he told reporters after attending a state assembly meeting, here Monday. Last Wednesday, Abdul Khalid had announced a salary increment of between 87 percent to 373 percent for the Menteri Besar, Exco, Speaker, deputy Speaker and state assemblymen.
