Fake Flower Decorations

How do you like the focal point of your living room? Do you even know what it is? If not, you need to find it if you are redecorating. Not establishing a focal point is like having a one-of-a-kind painting, but putting a curtain over it. So what is the first or main feature of the room that catches your eye? Usually this will be a set of windows with, hopefully, a great view or maybe a fireplace and mantle. When these points are pleasing, don't block them with furniture like couches. You can place a table, or a table and two chairs in front of a window with a great view and arrange the rest of the furniture so everyone enjoys the view. Always arrange your seating so it's not blocking the fireplace and everyone can enjoy it, if you have one. If you want to add another focal point or distract from one you have that you may consider a bit of an eyesore, you can! Do you have an area in the room with a recessed wall, a pillar in the room, or are all the walls straight through? These are questions you need to ask prior to redecorating.

Now that you've checked out your room, let's get to redecorating it:

&bull- If you have a recessed wall area on one side of the room, paint it a little darker than the shade that you've chosen for the rest of the room. This will create a sense of depth and a touch of drama to the room. By placing a table or a small desk or even a set of shelves and a banquet in the recessed area will start to dress it up. If using a table or small desk, place a table lamp on one side and a vase of flowers on the other. Over the desk, place a mirror or your favorite piece of art. If, however, you used the shelves and banquet idea, place a vase and/or two framed photographs on one shelf and then place a candle holder along with some of your favorite books on another shelf. In this case, make sure you balance the room by placing a floor lamp and a chair with a small table on the opposite wall.

&bull- Do you have a pillar along the wall in the room? Painting the pillar the same color you've chosen for the trim will make it an architectural feature you can use to your advantage. Choose the sides of the pillar that face the room and where traffic in and out of the room passes it. Measure a distance of about 5' 8" from the floor and on both sides of the pillar hang a grouping of small art works or photos, both a little lower and a little higher than the 5' 8". Doing this will create a focal point in the room and turn an otherwise awkward space into a visually pleasing display.

&bull- If you don't have any recessed walls or a pillar and you live in a house where all the walls are straight from end to end, you can create the same type of effects in your living room. To do this, you can simply add a book shelf or two or an étagère in one corner of the room and balancing it out with a sofa chair or an easy chair, table, and floor lamp in the other corner. Pair up a vase with a candle holder, a picture frame with a vase, or a grouping of candles will create an area of interest in the étagère. A picture frame and a small vase with flowers would compliment the balance on the opposite corner by the chair, table, and floor lamp.

Now you have some information and I hope you have the passion to take action with redecorating your living room. Before you go out and spend a bunch of money, go through your storage closet or garage. Look for things you may have put away throughout the years, things like picture frames, a pair of candle holders, small pieces of art, some special photos or even a pair of bookends.

The final touches would be to add a complimentary throw to the couch and some throw pillows in colors and prints that also compliment the general color scheme of your living room.
