Petaloo Color Me Crazy Flowers

Here we go again, Mothers Day is nearly here, it is on 14th March 2010 and you need to think of something your Mum will like and which you can afford. No problem if you have money to spare but who of us comes into that category these days? Not me for sure, so I got creative instead.

When you think about it, there are tons and tons of things your Mum would love to have happen and you can make some of them come true if not all, can't win the lottery for her I suppose, but others things you can do. Think hard about the kind of things she likes to do, such as:

1. She likes to spend time with you. This is a sure one but it has a few rules I would suggest. Time spent with you when you are moaning away, telling her all your stuff and hoping 'someone' will fix it, is not what I have in mind at all.

The most beguiling thing one person can do for another is to listen to them. This is a skill which few of us have without thinking, mostly we like to talk. So for your Mum on her day could you concentrate really hard and not let out even one tiny moan? Could you make her some tea, sit down at the table and ask her about things she would like to talk about. Yes even if it includes hearing about all your relatives. This is a gift of time from you to her, you can do it more often too perhaps.

2. I am sure lots of things come into your head when I ask you to think about what your Mum might want for her Mothers Day, well the way to turn them into a gift is to make them into a Promise to her.

You could Promise to wash up, clear, cook dinner every so often. If your Mum is like me, she won't ever say your cooking is rubbish, if she doesn't have to cook, then it is wonderful.

You could Promise to teach her something she has long wanted to learn but which you have kept saying you will, but then you haven't had time. What about how to use Word, email or texts or how to download or upload. Note to my offspring - how do I upload photos?

Maybe a good Promise would be to bring her a tiny bunch of flowers when you VISIT, yes, that last word is the important one, turn up regularly with a grin and a hug and you will have cracked it.

She will definitely like some flowers from you for Mothers Day though, that is the tradition, try flowers by post, they don't cost much and I know a good small company in Guernsey who will put your Promise in with the flowers if you want.
