If you are unemployed and facing a lengthy full-time job search, there may be an opportunity for you to work part-time from home. More and more companies are allowing individuals to have the flexibility to complete their duties from the comfort of their home. But sometimes it is difficult to differentiate between the legitimate jobs and the work-at-home scams. There have been so many people like myself who have tried everything under the sun (online typing, multi level marketing (mlm), surveys, etc) and have been not only been scammed, but lost lots of precious money in the process.

You have to look diligently and scope every prospect with the eye of a detective. That may sound a little extreme, but the payoff in the end will be worth it. With the economy in the tank, this seems to be the most efficient and credible way to earn some very much needed cash until the economy picks itself up. Most times, all you need is a very reliable computer with internet capability, a home office away from any and all distractions and the ability to regulate yourself that this is a job, but only you will be in the comfort of your home.

Now most companies that outsource their work (LiveOps, 1800 Flowers, etc.) will only pay up to minimum wage (and that my friends is a crime in itself, but I'll save that for another time), but if you are in a real financial bind, this is something that you as an individual will have to contend with. You may even have to work more than one position, which if you are great at multi-tasking, can be a true asset. You'll be tired in the end, but at least you will have a paycheck to show for it.

Be aware though, there is a downside to all of this. Many companies are now requiring that recruits submit themselves to a background and credit check to verify that whomever the company is hiring is honest, sincere and trustworthy since you are dealing with customer's personal information. But, if your track history with other companies has been positive, that may work in your favor if you have any issues with credit or personal history.

I say go for it. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain- more time with your family (especially moms with small children) and in the end it may become a new career or even the start of your own business. You have to realize that thinking outside of the box can always be a positive and never a negative. You'll love yourself for it.
