เครื่องหมาย Rx เป็นสัญลักษณ์ของวิชาเภสัชกรรมเป็นเครื่องบ่งบอกว่าร้านที่มีเครื่องหมายนี้เป็น ร้านขายยาที่เกี่ยวข้องกับวิชาชีพเภสัชกรรม

ตัว "R" มาจากภาษาลาตินว่า รีซิเป (Recipe) แปลว่า จงเอา(to take)

เวลาแพทย์เขียนใบสั่งยาขึ้นต้นด้วย Rx ตามด้วยส่วนผสมต่าง ๆ แล้ว มอบให้เภสัชกร ก็แปลว่า จงนำเอาส่วนผสมต่าง ๆ ที่บอก ไปปรุงเป็นยานั่นเอง

ส่วนเครื่องหมาย "/" ที่หางตัว R เชื่อกันว่าเป็นเครื่องหมายแสดงถึงดวงตาของเทพเจ้าโฮรัส (Horus) หรือ จูปีเตอร์ (Jupiter) ซึ่งเป็นเทพเจ้าแห่งการ บำบัดรักษาโรคของโรมัน

สัญลักษณ์อีกอย่างของวิชาชีพเภสัชกรรม คือ รูปงูพันถ้วยยาของเทพีไฮเยีย(Hygeia)
ซึ่งเป็นหมอเชี่ยวชาญเรื่องยาและเป็นเทพีแห่ง สุขภาพในเทพนิยายของกรีก
