The lawn in late August can present problems if you allow weeds such as clover, yarrow or Yorkshire fog. They must not be allowed to establish themselves. Is it to be the slow-growing, velvet show-lawn that we all dream about, or a superfine grass for the tennis player? Among other blends are the 'general purpose' for hard wear, the 'play lawn' that survives children, dogs and what have you, and the 'tough grass' mixture that has no look or pretence of velvet, but gives maximum wear for minimum cost.
