Coiling is just one of the many skills in quilling you can master. Not to many hobbies are so low-cost and so gratifying.

In order to start with quilling the key tools which you need are: a quilling tool, quilling paper and glue. Further tools that may be used include scissors, pins and rulers.

Before we begin the task lets first make sure we have quilling paper strips, quilling needle and glue. I would recommend your strips width can be 1/16 inch or 1/8 inch.

Lets get going:

To begin, first place one end of a paper strip in the slot of quilling tool or quilling needle which is unslotted. To stop the strip of paper from sliding, you may want to hold the tip of the tool. Using another finger, steer the paper strip into a coil. Now slightly turn the needle away from you to release the paper strip from the quilling needle. I suggest pulling the quilling tool away from you and not the piece of paper.

With the aid of the toothpick you can now apply a modest measure of the glue on the end of the coil which is loose. You can use your finger to now press this loose end down with the rest of the coil.

Once the glue is dry you will have something which can be used for beginning an eye, a flower or many other intriguing designs.

You have to practice making coils as it is the commencement of many a quilling project.
