Pre-heating - Aluminum has a tendency to distort if heat is applied too fast, so before you begin welding, pre-heat the metal a little bit. The pre-heat should ease the metal into the extreme heat that it will suffer from blowtorch, which will keep the distortion at a minimum.
Move quickly - With the low melting point that it has, the last thing you want to do is to linger at a single spot and melt and burn through the job! This is a definite possibility with aluminum. Keeping that in mind, never stop while with a burning torch.
Join Well - With steel you can fill in the gap between the pieces being weld, if they have any. But aluminum is different.
