You don't have to spend large amounts of money when you garden, everyday items you usually throw away can be used to start plants in, like egg cartons, paper cups, plastic pop bottles, old tin cans, and other things that make great pots to start your seeds in. An egg carton, all you have to do is remove the top from the bottom by cutting them apart. Make sure to make a drain hole with a nail in each egg cup bottom. Then use the top as a tray on the bottom. Fill each section with potting soil, place a few seeds, of the plants you want to start. Add water and place in a plastic bag until the seeds sprout. Remove plastic, place in a sunny place until the plant is big enough to transplant into a larger container.
Paper cups are treated the same, picking a hole in the bottom for drainage, fill with soil place on a used paper plate that you saved as a tray. Cover with plastic till sprouted, remove the plastic and place in a sunny window. Plastic pop bottles can be used like a pot, but can also make a great cover to use over pots you have seeded. They make a little greenhouse till the plants sprout, then they can be removed.
Other things you can use again, old newspapers make great ground cover between plants in your garden, if you cover it with a few leaves or other mulch. It will rot away after a time feeding the soil, but while it still there it will keep weeds away. When it's gone just replace a few newspapers with new ones. Old rotten food, like old vegetables, breads, coffee grounds, and egg shells can be added to your garden and mixed in adding needed minerals and food that will feed your plants.

I've seen people take old bed frames to make a bed of flowers. Think of creative ways to reuse things in your garden. It can be fun creating landscapes out of things you saved or found. I've been known to find things in the garbage that I've rescued placing it, after a little creative artwork on it, in my garden. Old wood can be used to make garden borders, or interesting garden art. You don't have to buy expensive statues from the store to add whimsical art to your garden. Create them yourself, it's more fulfilling.
