Skill gems: All these add an attack, spell, projectile, or trap/mine. Support gems: These gems modify supportable abilities when outfitted in a poe currency connected socket (one with a line drawn to another socket). The service gem has to be harmonious with the gem at the linked socket so as to have an effect. For instance, a support gem that affects projectiles won't do anything to some connected melee attack gem. Ensure that your linked jewels are compatible!
Equipped gems also level up as you make XP, receiving ten percent of their base XP granted from monster kills. Your character encounters an XP penalty when revisiting lower level regions, but that punishment does not apply to gems. So you can quickly level gems by replaying areas that are a few degrees lower than your current degree.
Don't pick up every single piece of loot you locate
Every piece of loot you acquire requires up varying levels of room in your bag. To carry as many potential things at the same time, you need to move things around and squeeze things into the allotted spaces. Even then, your bag is likely to fill up fast in the event that you pick up each and every thing you encounter.
