When Maine native Ray LaMontagne released his debut effort Trouble, no one expected it to break the ground that it did. But the honesty that resonated in the simple folk songs sung from deep within his soul grabbed many people by the heart and wouldn't let go. So, when it came time for his sophomore effort to be released, most people expected more of the same - expertly crafted and beautifully expressed simple acoustic songs performed by Ray on his guitar, with minimal backup.

Most people were surprised.

Three More Days, the first single, started off the string of broken expectations by hitting people in the face with a horn-heavy, R&B inspired sound that was a clear throwback to the days of Motown. And what surprised people the most was - it was really good! It received heavy airplay on mainstream radio stations and was widely regarded to be an even bigger success than Ray's previous most successful song to date, Shelter.

Another crowd favorite is the heartfelt Can I Stay, a ballad imploring the woman he loves to let him stay in her presence and her embrace, the only place he truly feels comfortable and safe.

Till the Sun Turns black was released on August 29, 2006 on the RCA label, and in addition to Three More Days and Can I Stay, also includes the tracks Be Here Now, Empty, Barfly, You Can Bring Me Flowers, Gone Away From Me, Lesson Learned, Truly, Madly, Deeply, Till The Sun Turns Black, and Within You.

All in all, it may not have been the follow up to Trouble that the public expected, but in my opinion, but defying those expectations it exceeded them.
